2. Walter Pforzheimer,
General Counsel, CIA
Poom 317 South Bldg.
My clear .]alter,
At the last CIA Orientation Course a Bibliography of interest
to intelligence officers was distributed in the program. Under the
heading "Intelligence - Methods and Techniques" 25 books were listed.
Of thepe 23 were wholly or principally in the DD/P area, one was on
Combat Intelligence, and only one was in the area of DD/I pertaining
to the collation, integration, interpretp.tion and presentation of
intelligence after the facts are collected.
This DD/I part of the intelligence activity is essentially an
intellectual activity, and draws strength from psychology, history,
sociology and even law. There is much that is worthwhile to be said
in this field of intelligence activity.
I am currently proposing through O/TR to write a treatise on
this subject. A prospectus can be sent, if you are interested.
Such a project would be tremendously strengthened by an oppor-
tunity to see what has already been written in this field of intelli-
gence. Incidentally the bibliography mentioned at the beginning of
this letter, which bibliography is handed out several times a year to
several hundred intelligence workers would be gr-atly strengthened by
the inclusion of a few additional volumes helpful in the DD/I field.
As a favor to me, would you permit me to consult your own out-
standing Library of Intelligence to glean some ideas which would be
helpful in building up the knowledge of the liternture in this field
of intelligence? The historical approach, with a quotation or two
having an ancient flavor, would add gr~-atly to the interest of any
intelligence treatise.
Sincerely
STAT
