1. The Director had breakfast with 14 members of the S. G. S.
Club, a group of sophrnore Republican Congressmen. The Deputies,
Mr. Kirkpatrick and I also attended. Following breakfast, the
Director answered specific questions on a variety of subjects.
Messrs. Wainwright and Frelinghuysen raised the problem of the
Mansfield Resolution, and the Director stated his views in full as
to the objections to the bill, which largely relate to the Staff problem.
Following the meeting, the Director invited Frelinghuysen and
Wainwright to visit him again to discuss this matter in more detail.
Also at the conclusion of the meeting, Congressman Bentleyinforrned
me that in the near future he would like to get together with those in
this Agency who have been considering the problem of using Iron
Curtain refugees. in some sort of a military role as proposed originally
by Gongreas Kai some years ago.
