RFFFRFMCF: CSB Memorandum, of 19 March 1953 to General Counsel
in reply to the request contained in Para]-,raph 3 of the
reference memorandum the records of this office disclose the infor,na-
tion set forth hereafter in Paragraph 2.
)I was established by !xecutive Order of the President on
11 July 194l and on 13 June 1942 by ?'Lilitary order of the Presider t as
Commander in Chief it became OSS, wit}, the exception of the foreign
information activities which were transferred to OWI on the same date.

order of 12 September 1945 the Research and Analysis Branch and the
Presentation Branch of OSS were transferred to the Denartment of State.

Department by x']cecutive Order of 20 September 1945 and the functions
Of the Director and of the Joint Chiefs relating to the Director's

Documents Canter, formed in 19ti5 from psrt of G-2 and part of ONI ias
transferred to CIO as a unit or 1 December 1946. The National Security
Act of 1947 established the CIA in September of that year and them
was transferred to it the personnel, prooerty- and records of CIG.
