1. Was advised by the Director's office that in connection with
Senator J. Glenn 1 eall's letter of 21 July, the Director had talked with
Senator Beall indicating that he wished to talk with
Senator Beall heartily agreed with this, and arrangements have been
made for a meeting on l August. Senator Beall apparently still asked
for a letter from the D. However, no action will be taken until after
the DCI has seen0 Possibly a personal visit to Beall telling
him of these discussions will satisfy the requirement.

the Director requested a briefing book be maintained by the Legislative
Counsel and made available for future hearings. Assistance on this was
requested of I r. Charles la son in addition to the budget information to
be furnished orally to Mr. Smart.
S. At the request of the DCl, I telephoned liar. William Darden
on the Staff of the Senate Armed Services Committee to Inquire of the
possibility of a CIA Subcommittee. Senate Armed Services, meeting to
bear a briefing by the Director. Darden stated that Senator Leveref
Sattoastall (R., Mass..) had raised this very point several days ago. He
will discuss the matter further and possibly it could be held next week.
