A. ACOMPLISHMENTS
1. SUMMARY: Division activity continued at a high level primarily because
of effort expended on top priority projects for the DCI, DDT, and DDP. The
Division completed a total of 47 reports, memoranda, and miscellaneous types
of working papers. Twenty-four papers are in edit and four are in reproduction.
Sixty-two. new requirements were received during the month. The Division is
continuing its investigation of new and modified instruments for the exploit-
ation of photographic materials. The Geographic Photographic Interpretation
Course will end 1 October and the second Basic Photographic Interpretation
Course will start 8 October 1957. In addition, much time was spent in
numerous substantive and teebnical consultations.
2. TECHNICAL INTELLIGENCE BRANCH: The Branch continued to give support
on high priority projects undertaken by the Division. Two Photographic
Intelligence Memoranda and one yorking.paper.were issued during the month.
Much effort was devoted to projects in progress which include the investig-
ation of new and modified instruments and eqeipment for the exploitation of
photographic materials, metrical analysts of military installations, pre-
panstion of photo intelligence graphics, and computer progeemming and techniques.
As part of the Systems Concept Package under study end development by the
Division the Branch received, on board the ALWAC III-E Medium Capacity Electronic
Computer, five Bausch and Lomb Airforce Stereoviewer Stereoscopes, a Bausch
and Lomb Micrograph, and a Wild VG-1 Enlarger.
3. SPECIAL PROJECTS BRANCH: A total of three P.I. memoranda exploiting
DDP neterials were forwaTAWG the editorial staff. A mosaic for DDP and a
graphics for briefing eurposes were completed. Work was continued on three
DDP projects, aircraft identification keys, recognition keys, and miscellaneous
research requests regarding eqpipment development.
4. GEOGRAPHIC BRANCH: Eleven Photo Intelligence Memoranda were completed
during the month. Mbet of the work was in support of the ORA, OBI, and DC/.
Work includee study of a copper smelter and refinery, railroad transfer sites,
petroleum storage, shipyards, and a mosaic and study of an urban area to serve
as a base for a city plan. Work continues on the study of a metallurgical
combine, railroad facilities, and on urban areas.
5. INDUSTRIAL BRANCH: Sixteen requiremente were completed and 18 re-
quirements were received during the month. The Branch is devoting much of
its efforts to high priority projects in a joint Army-.Navy-CIA working arrange-
ment. Branch personnel participated in numerous briefings including two
separate briefings of the Killian Committee.
