Month of October 1957
A. Summary of Cartographic Production and Accomplishments
1. During October the Cartography Division accepted requests
for 78 maps and charts, 73 for CIA, 4 for the Department of State, and
1 for the Air Force. Of the total for the Agency, 46 were requested by
ORR, 13 for CIA contribution to NIS, 1 for OCR, 4 for OCI, 6 for ONE,
1 for DD/P, and 2 for DD/S. During the same period, the Division
completed. 63 maps and charts, of which 3 were for the Department of
State any. 1 for NSC. During the month, 19% of the completions represented
work on the USSR and Satellites, 24% on the Far East-Western Bemisphere,
and 12% on Europe-Africa and the Near East. At the close of the report-
ing period, 62 items remained in reproduction. Three noteworthy projects
completed during the month were a series of 12 maps on Latin American
petroleum, for GG, a map for the National Security Council on the
Middle East petroleum, and a special azimuthal map for D/GP.
2. The NIS Map Coordinator received 20 color proofing jobs and
61 final HIS maps from reproduction during September. One hundred and
twenty-two final NIS maps remained in reproduction at the close of the
month.
3. The Special Support Branch accepted requests for 51 new maps
and charts plus 8 revisions and completed 43 new jobs and 9 revisions during
the month. In addition 6 reruns were requested and complete..
B. Administrative Problems and Other Activities
25X1A5a1 visited I/ OC to talk over problems regarding the Contract work the
is doing for the Agency.
2. Thirty-five maps and charts were given editorial. OK for
distribution by D/GL.
3. During the month of October the Cartography Division conducted
tour?. for several groups from D/GG and D/GP; also approximi.te ,y 40 persons
from the "R" Area, Department of State, were given tours to familiarize
them with the procedures for requesting maps for their NIB contributions..
4. The United Givers Fund participation ratio of the Division was
apprc xi .tely 95% as of the end of October.
5. Housecleaning of certain NIS publications was aecompal.shed in
several Branches to make room for ch needed storage.
