Weekly Report No. 2
1. No definite site has as yet been selected for a CIA build-
ing. Three alternate sites are presently under consideration:
(a) the Nevius Tract, (b) the Langley Site, and (c) the Old Soldier's
Home. Detailed studies are being prepared upon which selection of a
final site can be based. These studies include availability of the
site to certain key centers such as the White House, the Pentagon,
and the State Department; transpo si ice; and possibility
of construction of a building for ir less on the proposed
site. In this latter connection, it is fe t that it may be impossible
to construct a building with r less on the Nevius Tract
in view of the fact that such a building must fit into the overall
architectural plans of the National Capital Park and Planning Commis-
sion. It is generally agreed that if it were possible to construct
a suitable building there, the Nevius Tract would be the best available
site.
2. Once a site has been selected, it will be possible for PS
to produce plans for an appropriate building for the site in sufficient
detail for Congressl.onal presentation.
4. It is felt that, until we are more advanced on the selection
of a site and have more detailed ideas as to the type and cost of the
proposed building, it would not be advisable for the Director to com-
mence discussions with Congressional appropriations leaders, as he
would not be in a position to answer detailed question such leaders
might have regarding CIA construction.
