The Weeder eeatimted his briefing of the Defense Subcommittee
of House Approjeas. The entire session irent very well and members
seemed interested sad. Ln fact. quits ? number of them congratulated the
DCI ca his balanced pressatatica and the demoastrative quality in their
opiniea of the periormaace of CIA over the years. Again. the briefing
was well attendod, all members being present except Albert Thomas.
In particular. Mahon sad Sheppard were obviously assisting the DCI by
attemptiag to *mild a record for the Agescy. Mr. Sikes, who had exploded
in the floor of the Hoses a few days ago spinet CIA. seemed impressed
and he had ? series of well thought out questioas which were penetrating.
He seemed well satisfied with the summers. however. Present for the
Agency es both days were the DM. Amory. and Warner. In
addition to the members of the Subcommittee. the following members of
the staff were present: Samuel Crosby. Earl Silsby. Frank P. Sanders.
Aubrey A. Duna.lle. and Paul Wilson. There was a transcript taken
but oaly two copies will be made; ass to be retaiaed by the Agency and
on. by the Committee. We will reeks iippropriate corrections sad one
deletion which was agreed to by the chairman.
Mr. Eastasas Erman called to advise dist the Department of State bad
received & nersher of congressional tattooist*. concerning Fulton Lewis'
attacks on S.TIC. Mr. Drown said he would make CIIOU of the repiies
available to this Office.
Houston sat ae an observer. together with Col. Glen Smith of OE.
during the presestaties by AEC to the Ida Committee for Atomic tuergy
with respect to prorseed amendments to OM Ablest' Energy Law.
