economist, will be traveling in Europe during June to make arrange-
ments for and facilitate committee conferences to be held in August
and November.
Provisions of the Handbook for Congressional Travel apply. Meet,
assist and appoint controlofficers. baeaiee are requested to make
hotel reservations (singles with bath) in accordance with the itiner-
ary listed below. Messrs. Lehman and Moore are authorised to utilize
local currencies 19FT561 funds.
Embassy Brussels is requested to arrange for the rental of car,
which will be paid for out of local currencies, for use of CODEL dur..
ing its starin. Brussels.
Please confirm all arrangements to the Department. If there are

Amembassy Madrid - 1h'. Moore would like to return on the SS INDEPENDENCE
from Algeciras on June 264 He will have tickets for TWA 783 to New York as
well as for SS Independence. If he returns by ship Embassy is requested to
assist with transportation to Algeciras.
The Committee is interested primarily in:
(l) The problems of central banking, including the ownership and
operation of the central bank, treasury-central bank relationships,
the formulation and contribution of monetary policy to stabilization;
(2) The problems of encouraging venture capital, particularly for the
establishment and support of small business enterprises; and
(3) The problems of automation and rapid technological -advance as they
relate to economic stability;
().t) The problems of economic stabilization with particualzr reference
to fiscal policy;
(5) the relation of private prices-to and price-making policies upon,
economic stabilityj and
(6) The problems of national and international economic statistics --
their reliability and improvement.
The Committee does not plan to hold formal hearings as is customarily
&Ile on the domestic scene, but plans to hold both formal and informal
Ldiscussions and round tables with experts and informed persons,. primarily

The posts are requested to arrange meetings mith appropriate personnel
both Government and private in furtherance obtaining information an above
topics. The meetings can be bilateral or, where posts deem it appropriate,
of round-table nature.
The Committee requests availability of interpreters. Authorize pay
from local currencies i if not available, through posts. Posts are requested
to-be prepared to furnish competent stenographer for English translation, if
requested.
