JOHN LEONARD PILCHER, Democrat of Meigs, On.; born
on a farm in Thomas County, Ga., August 27, 1898; son of Charles P.
and Ida Singletary Filcher; educated in the public schools; married
Dorothy Covington June 22, 1922; two sons:, Charles Plicher and the
late John Leonard Filcher. Jr.; dirt far:;ler for 3g years; operates
general mercantile business, cotton gin, warehouses, fertilizer
acturing plant, and syrup canning plant; major and member of
council of Meigs. Ga.; member of board of education and county
commission of Thomas County; served in State legislature and State
senate; former State purchasing agent; former director, P. M. A. of
Thomas County. National Cotton Council. National Cotton Ginner*
Association. and Georgia State Chamber of Commerce; Methodist;
member of Masons, Shriners, and Elks; elected to the Eighty-third
Congress February 4. 1953, to fill the vacancy caused by the death
of E. E. Cox; reelected to the Eighty-fourth. Eighty-fifth, and Eighty-
sixth Congresses.
