According to who has been coordinating the current G-2 request for briefings, one of the principal reasons for the re- questa having been directed to the Director of Training rather than through normal liaison channels was the very positive reaction of the last group to SIC's portion of their program. Apparently Lt. Col. Allegro, officer in charge, passed the word in G-2 that officers who were being posted overseas and who were not taking the SIS course, should receive a similar briefing. This could easily result in a further expansion of SIC's Phase II activities, since once these programs get started there appear to be countless candidates who really need the training. 2. At the request of in WH I have agreed to give a briefing to twenty Latin American newspaper representatives at the Department of State on Friday morning. It is to cover aspects 25X1A of CP strategy, tactics, and organization which would be applicable to current Latin Amer can CP activities. This would normally have been done by but he is not available and WH appeared to be 25X1C somewhat desperate for a substitute. They've built up a large credit with SIC through their constant participation in the ACO, so I felt 25X1C that we should help them out. I will a ear under as a Latin American expert, but merely as an analyst of Communist tactics and organization. 3. I hesitate to open up old wounds, and I may be asking for a lot of trouble, but the question of General Cabell's "Chamber of Horrors" keeps intruding into my thoughts. It has been neglected ("ignored" would be more accurate), and has not been built up beyond what he saw on his last visit. I have the impression that it has CONFIDENTIAL Approved For Release 2000/05M3 CIA 61-00442A000100010013-5 Approved For Release 2 /05/03: CIA-RDP61.1 442A000100Q4p13-5 been forgotten, but I certainly don't want you to be embarrassed by a call one day from the General asking for a showing to some dis- tinguished visitor. A resolution of this problem would be very useful in my planning of SIC's activities over the next few months. Approved For Release 2000/05/03 : CIA-R P r W1.442A000100010013-5
