II. OTHER ACTIVITIES
1. Several months ago, at the request of a former student from
the course SIC presented at USIA, we sent,to USIA the lectures which
had been given at the IADB program.' These were to be reviewed by
USIA for possible use by a mid-eastern universit professor in setting
up some programs on Communism. It has come to ' ar attention'tbat
USIA has accepted these as being quite suitable for the original
purpose, and is now thinking in terms of editing the lectures for
unattributed publication by USIA. _ will meet tomorrow with the
USIA officer involved and get more precise details concerning USIA's
intentions in this matter.
2. With permission of DD/TR the ACO scheduled for 8 September
has been cancelled. There had been a number of inquiries concerning
the course, but only three registrations. We checked the three in-
dividuals concerned and in only one case was the course urgently needed."
Two will be able to take the January running, and we will arrange a
tutorial for the third. I believe that the special AGO conducted
for FE in July, which by the time it was conducted included several
people from other DDP components, used up whatever backlog of students
we normally would have had for the September course.
3. who is investigating the perennial problem of
overlapping effort in the Communism field for the IG, spent about
two hours with me on 2 September soliciting information and opinion
about this matter. SIC appears to be involved in only a peripheral
way. I believe Bob was simply using his contact with us as a means
of self-education. His comments seemed to indicate that the role of
SRS is once again the central problem.
