Communism and the USSR Document No.
1. Preparation of the Training Manual of SIC lectures
given in the 1958 JOT program is now underway with the assign-
ment to SIC of two typists from the uncleared clerical pool.
It appears that this will be a very satisfactory arrangement.
Notes and lectures presently in longhand in most cases are being
copied in double spaced draft form in order that the various
instructors can more readily edit and footnote them. Final
preparation may be put on stencils or "mats" in order to make
a number of copies.
2. The preparation of a Reading List for a seminar of
twelve weekly meetings on Chinese Communism is nearing completion
and it is anticipated that the first discussion group will be
activated by the first week in February.
3. In accordance with the suggestion of the D/TR I have
has taken both the Organization and Opera-
s ACO. He was an outstanding student and
participant of both. He has a fine reputation in DDP. He
expressed an interest in serving a tour in SIC in the future. 25X1A
Although WH is certainly not likely to release him willingly,
he would contribute in great measure if he could be drafted.

possibility until he has at least gotten final medical approval
for the assignment.

quite satisfactorily. He is an extremely intelligent person.
The procedure of sending him reading material prior to discussion

made the opening sessions with - very productive.
5. A trip by to the Armed Forces Staff College
at Norfolk on January 7th was not included in the last Activities
Report. A sequel to this fact is the request made by that College
to forward the lecture to the Pacific Defense College (SEATO).
We believe this is in Manilla P.I. The lecture was not attributed
to - or the Agency directly but was indirectly as the 25X1A
program of the College at Norfolk had been previously disseminated
to SEATO.
