DATE: 15 January 1959 FROM : Chief, School of International Communism and the USSR Document No. 1. Preparation of the Training Manual of SIC lectures given in the 1958 JOT program is now underway with the assign- ment to SIC of two typists from the uncleared clerical pool. It appears that this will be a very satisfactory arrangement. Notes and lectures presently in longhand in most cases are being copied in double spaced draft form in order that the various instructors can more readily edit and footnote them. Final preparation may be put on stencils or "mats" in order to make a number of copies. 2. The preparation of a Reading List for a seminar of twelve weekly meetings on Chinese Communism is nearing completion and it is anticipated that the first discussion group will be activated by the first week in February. 3. He is an extremely intelligent person. The procedure of sending him reading material prior to discussion 25X1A made the opening sessions with - very productive. 5. A trip by to the Armed Forces Staff College at Norfolk on January 7th was not included in the last Activities Report. A sequel to this fact is the request made by that College to forward the lecture to the Pacific Defense College (SEATO). We believe this is in Manilla P.I. The lecture was not attributed to - or the Agency directly but was indirectly as the 25X1A program of the College at Norfolk had been previously disseminated to SEATO. 6.
