UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO : Director of Training FROM : Chief, Plans and Policy Staff sUBJECF: Weekly Activity Report #39 25X1 25X1 25X1 Mr. of LAS, in their meeting with Mr. DD/P Training Officer, on 12 October 1959. Mr. began our meeting by noting an apparent tempo- rary breakdown in communication between our Registrar and the Africa Division: apparently (it is alleged) Africa Division had entered no students in the AAO Africa South of the Sahara because it was un- aware that this course was scheduled (no Bulletin to the Africa Division?) . Actually, five persons are currently scheduled for field assignments in that area, but their training and processing schedules are filled. Next, d i on LV confirmed his U11UCrstandin with LlR L11CLL an Intro uct went on to mention that he was looking into the requirements for the Overseas Effectiveness should be run during the first two weeks of December, 1959, with students to be enrolled probably as follows: FE-5, EE-3, NE-2 or3, WE-2, SR- ?,Africa -0, FI- 1, PP - 1, 10 - ? . This "trial run" will determine whether or not DD/P will request future presentations of this course. Mr. then 25X1 Course. the 25X 1 Operations Course, a possible requirement for a ~operations course, and in this vein noted that he was working on a plan to present to Mr. Bissell which would call for more definite programming of train- 25X1 ing within the Clandestine Services and, in turn, more firm requirements to be levied upon OTRO offered PPS' assistance in this regard, in the interest of serving our mutual objectives. We then proceeded to review the memorandum of transmittal of our area training staff study, 25X1 and the basic recommendations of the memorandum. In sum, it appears that Mr. "buys" these recommendations, will secure DD/P approval, and, in any event, reply to DTR in the very near future. There followed an inconclusive discussion of language training, but 25X1 it is understood that will support our stepped-up language 25X1 testing proposal and also the proposed survey of language requirements which) I is organizing.
