Approved For Release -RDP61'442A00010004db16-9 Office Memorandum ? UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO A/Director of Training THRU Chief, Operations School PROM : Chief, Field. Training DATE: 9 February 1959 SUBJECT: Weekly Activities Report No. 5, Field. Trainin 25X1A6a Period 2 to 6 February 1959 1. The weekly activities were enjoyably and profitably interrupted on Friday, 6 February, by the Italian movie version of "London Calling North Pole." This 35 mm. cinernascope commercial film is an exceptionally fine piece of training material. It is sincerely doubted. that any number of lectures or other training media could so forcefully impress upon an operations officer the vital need for an "independent look" into operations. While the film deviates somewhat for commercial purposes from the actual text of Giskes' account, it is as faithful a retelling as could be expected. The awful cost in lives, materiel, and. the total worthlessness of this huge effort by British and Dutch Intelligence dramatically high-lights the absolute need for checking out an operation through independent means. It is highly recommended that training take steps to procure this film in order to make it available on a permanent basis. It is in Italian with English subtitles. The film was deemed so important that a second showing for OFC #16 students was arranged. The first showing was for the staff. 2. On 5 February, ATB presented for the first time to students of OFC #16, a full day of approximately 16 hours on 25X1A 25X1A9a 25X1A9a 25X1A9a this new training to OFC students will be made. It should. also be noted that has reported for duty and that a complete Agency clearance was received on the 4th of February making it possible for his enrollment as a student in AOC #24 on 9 February. 3. We have held several discussions with as to the evaluations he will prepare on the students of OFC #1 . Ken has been working rather closely with on this problem. They have found that the student grades on the three written exercises now incorporated in lieu of the 18 written exercises formerly included., very closely approximated. recorded performance in past OFC's. It appears, therefore, that these three exercises can be used as a basis for backstopping narrative type evaluations. 4. The first and. by far the longest 25X1A2d2 psychological tests for - individuals has been made and given to two individuals. Bill is working with the individuals approximately three hours each morning and. hopes to complete the first round. of testing by 18 February. On 3 February, Bill was at Headquarters in order to review reports from the psychologist-who worked with a predecessor 25X1A2d2 -group. 25X1A9a 25X1A9a 25X1A9a 25X1A9a 5. Insofar as personnel matters are concerned during the reporting week, it has finally been decided. that the best interests of OTR at the moment will be best served by having remain here for a while longer. Chick will be in charge of the reporting block of the OC course when Ben is reassigned. after OC #8. is now ex cted to report PCS as of the 20th of February. also from TSS, will commute between here and there unt uc time as housing becomes available. 6. In place of a schedule covering the entirety of OC #8, a syllabus will be prepared. It is expected. that this syllabus will be a much more usable document. It will describe very briefly each hour of activity of the course. The entire schedule for the twenty-four weeks is outlined on the demonstration board in office. At the same time the schedule for the first two weeks of the course is already available, and it is expected that the following two weeks of the course will be available during the week of 9 February. It is expected that for OC #9 it may be possible to publish a full schedule prior to the actual opening day. 7. On 5 February, Rod. and I called in all members of the 25X1A2d3 staff who have had any connection with the_ Project for a special security briefing. I will give you a full report on this meeting in our next Weekly Activities Report. Approved For Release 2000/08/03: CIA-RDP61-00442A000100040016-9 25X1A9a 25X1A2d2 25X1A6a 25X1A9a 25X1A9a
