Office Memorandum ? UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT
TO ? Director of Training
THRU . Chief, Operations School
FROM : Chief, Field Training
DATE: 14 April 1959
SUBJECT: Weekly Activities Report #14, Field Training, 25X1A6B
Period. 6 - 10 April 1959
1. On 9 April 1959, Mr. came into the
25X1A9A office while Mr. - and were ? a ng, and. in a very
agitated. and. obviously disturbed. manner, informed us that
"ACC #6 would have to be cancelled or go on without him."
In the next half hour, we attempted. to learn the nature of
25X1A9A Mr. -complaint, but apparently he has no real complaint
or grievance. Rather, it appears that the pressures in teaching
the course had mounted to practically a breaking point. He
specifically referred to the number of holes in the walls of
Bldg. 3-15, the tremendous amount of work involved in setting
up the demonstrations and came back time and time again to the
25X1A9A report. From all that he said, it was obvious that this
problem appears to be one related to the future of the course
and a certain feeling, although unjustified on his part, that
he had failed personally. We encouraged him and assured him that
if there were any ways in which we could assist, that we certainly
would-do so. He seemed more calm after the half hour and con-
2 5X1A9A vinced himself that the course should go on. We assured
Mr.- that when the time came to devise a two-or-three-day
package of the = he could. count on us for all aid possible and
he was further assured. that we were most satisfied with his
efforts and. that he had-done a very good job with the =

25X1A9A 2. Mr. has informed me that Mr. 25X1A9A
TSS/ has been authorized by TSS to install a special 25X1 C4E
telephone with the telephone number, for the
purpose of maintaining contact with Mr. - and members of his 25X1A9A
25X1A9A staff. Mr. - has requested approval to use this telephone
in order to discuss official matters requiring such contact with
25X1A9A Mr.~ As we do not readily see the need. for such a means of
communication, we expect to talk to - further before making 25X1A9A
any commitment.

ATB has completed the first week of flight instruction for
In spite of adverse flying weather and the absence of
one of the helio planes for mechanical servicing, the two pilots
were given approximately ten hours transition time each, including
close to fifty practice landings by commencing work at 7 o'clock in

the morning. The one aircraft was able to be utilized by both
pilots so that the first week's schedule did not suffer to any
great degree. According to Cdr. - both the pilots and 25X1A9A
the navigator have long experience and are generally very competent.
In his opinion, they will be fully operationally qualified when
they finish the course.
25X1A6A ii . In connection with the above flight training, the DCF
visited on Wednesday, 8 April, for the purpose of
becoming generally acquainted with the set up. He came back
with favorable continents on everything he had seen though it
was admittedly a small portion of the area and facilities available.
The air field, except for a CAA radio station which is located
there, is ideal for the type of program ATB is now engaged in.
It has both concrete runways and plenty of infield for practicing
landings under various conditions. The ATB staff was using the
operations shack for both an office and a classroom. This was
adequate for the program at hand and could. be used, if necessary,
for groups of up to ten students. The quarters being occupied by
the students is adequate and. clean but not pretentious even though
