A paper is being prepared describing the actions taken by the L triguage Development Committee in its meeting last Thursday. The paper will be circulated to committee members for concurrence and sent to D/TR. 3. has been recording materials intended for the use of VLTP students. Altogether more than 20 hours of Russian recording is involved. 1I . Assistant tq' ORR Training Officer, in- formed that ORB is making a survey of the use of languages (and other specialized skills) in actual on-the-job operations. Perhaps the results of this will be relevant in the programming of future courses. ORE is the Agency component which contributes the largest number of students to Russian and East European reading courses. has been assigned to us from the Pool. At present she is assisting the Department of Slavic Languages in various tasks, such as the assembling of full-time Russian course materials, typing of reading selections, and the like. It is expected that she will be here about a month. ~. who has been with us on loan to assist as instructor in the fu -time a tc class, left last Friday to have an operation on her knee. She expects to be back with us when classes resume after the holiday break. 7. interviewed one Arabic and two Chinese instructor prospects at 16th ree . The instructor concerned had had no previous teaching experience and there were some initial difficulties, as expected, but her interest and coopera- tiveness enabled her to achieve a very satisfactory result. The remaining -program will end on Friday, 18 December. has been working with TSS on a translation into technical Romanian.
