OTHER ACTIVITIES 1, are examining the report on DDP language requirements to ascertain how much of the desired information can be obtained from it. We will report our conclusions when the work is completed. re resenting of AF Division, has come twice for talks with concerning the possibility of their giving a kind of familiarization course on the Arabic language and the Arab world. What AF has in mind is eight weeks of two 1-1/2 hour sessions per week, to be given in the AF area for about 15 people, mostly of the clerical level, to prepare them for their first overseas assignments. told 0 that they would be glad to help, but suggested that AF should first take up the matter with DTR. Vii. The two external Introductory French tutorial programs which are being supervised by the LAS French staff, began 1 October and are scheduled to complete 200 hours of instruction on or about 18 December. Meetings average three hours daily. It is expected that upon completion of this program the students will have acquired an introductory knowledge of spoken and written French sufficient to enable them to get along in the corrunonest situations of daily life and travel. LAS has provided texts with accompanying tapes, dual-track tape recorders and continuing consultation and guidance for the tutors. Arrange- ments are being made to give the students oral and written examination to evaluate achievement during and at the end of the course.
