B. OTHER ACTIVITIES
1. is serving as a Russian interpreter at the
Rubber Industry Conference being held in Washington this week.
2. Between 2 and 7 October thirty-three JOT's and wives were placed
in VLTP classes, twenty-two in three newly organized classes in beginning
French, German and Spanish. Of the thirty-three, four never appeared in
class and five others had dropped out by 1 November. The new French 101
and Spanish 101 classes were down to four students each at the end of
three and a half weeks.
3, is working on a study of the correlation between
low language aptitude test scores (7 and 8) and student performance in
the Voluntary Language Training Program. It will include current data on
drop-outs, failure to maintain a satisfactory level of performance in class
and, for students enrolled in the Winter trimester 1959, laboratory
attendance.
