Deputy for Language Training SUBJECT: Weekly Activities Report A. SIGNIFICANT ITEMS None to report. B. OTHER ACTIVITIES 1. Mr. McFarland, Assistant to Leroy James Benoit, USIA Language and Area Training Officer, contacted 0 with regard to full-time training in Czech for an employee of that Agency. One of the main difficulties in arranging classes is that very often component of the DDP has only one person requiring instruction in such languages as Serbo- Croatian, Bulgarian or even Czech. Minor felt, however, that requirements would in the near future increase somewhat beyond the present level. 3. Our prospective Arabic instructor, Amra, has definitely rejected our second offer for employment. He stated that he had accepted another position which, although not in his field, offered him a higher salary now and more security for the future. We are therefore continuing the clearance procedures on two other prospects. One of these should be cleared in a short time from now, and he is therefore our best hope, although his dialect is not precisely the kind we would prefer to have. 1~, has joined our staff as a part-time instructor in French effective 2 c o r. is a native of Paris and has taught French in private schools. 25 YEAR RE-REVIEW Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2009/12/18: CIA-RDP61-00442A000200040037-5
