The first full-time Greet course has ended with a week at
which went off very successfully. Besides Dand
w o were present for the whole period, we had from time to
me a number of Greek-speaking guests who were a great asset.
Although the formal course is now over, we are arranging for several
of the students to continue individual or semi-individual work with

to return for full-time work with the Division, and we have
reluctantly agreed to do so. His departure from LAS is scheduled
for around the beginning of September, which will give him time to
finish his present courses with us and will give us time to find a
replacement.
3. The past week has also brought the end of the full-time
Japanese course, although in this case too the two students are to
continue with more informal part-time work with through-
out the summer. One of these students achieved a rating o Inter-
mediate in the speaking part of the Agency Proficiency Examination,
which is very commendable in view of the fact that he had had only
four months of part-time and three months of full-time Japanese
training. The other student has not yet taken the exam.

of instructional manuals.
7. The French Intermediate (Full-Time) course ended this
week in the wake of a very successful stay at In their
critiques, the students were generally enthusiastic about the course.
The main criticism centered around the size of the class and the
impossibility of providing individual attention with the staff avail-
able. In view of the odds against which the Romance language staff
had to work, they should all be congratulated for a job well done.
