and A8E attended the all- day panel discussion on election
and training of personnel for cross-cultural work"-as part of the
First Annual International Conference of the Society for Inter-
national Development at the Shoreham Hotel on 27 February. The very
free exchange of thought among panelists (representing government,
business, higher education, Christian missions, foundations and
philanthropic organizations) and the audience contributed a wide
variety of ideas on the central theme that is of dominent concern
to us in our new program and that obviously is of rapidly growing
concern to all organizations preparing people for more effective
service overseas than has been possible prior to recognition of
the importance of preparing people emotionally, psychologically,
and intellectually, in addition to their professional preparation.
