UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT : Chief, Language and Area School FROM : Deputy for Language Training suBJECT: Weekly Activities Report by LAS staff and contract instructors. In all, 47 instructors DATE: 14 January 1959 A. SIGNIFICANT ITEMS Last Saturday LAS held another of its institutes on language teaching and linguistics with the instructors in the VLTP. The meeting took place from 0930 to 1230 in R&S building. The first hour was devoted to orientation of instructors just entering the program plus a few prospective instructors. Following this, sepa- rate sessions were held for Slavic and East European, Romance, Germanic, and Non-Indo-European language instructors. At these individual sessions both old and new instructors in the program were present and demonstrations of drill techniques were given instructor. It is expected that the course can start in approximately two weeks. We have offered to assist in every way, including training r an of setting up a enc course under the VLTP for staff B.
