INTELLIGENCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Program of National Intelligence Estimates
For Period 1 October 1956 to 30 March 1957
1. On 2 October the IAC, approved the quarterly revision of the
Program of National Estimates attached as Tab A. This estimates
program is given in tabular form in Tab B, whereas Tab C presents
the Status of the Estimates Program for the Third Quarter 1956.
2. This program reflects the IAC's decision, in comparison
with previous practice, to project for only six months rather than
twelve in view of past difficulties in programming accurately beyond
six months. A main purpose of advance planning--prior notice for
research and requirements--is handled by a new section on recurring
estimates (Tab A, item 23), and by elaboration of the tentative list to
include some indication of present predictions as to future estimative
requirements (Tab A, items, 24-34).
