Trends in the Middle East in the Light of
Arab Unity Developments

I. F inks
Intelligence materials upon which this estimate was based were
generally good in quantity and quality. Deficiencies were substan-
tially the. same as were met with in connection with the preparation
of other recent estimates on the Middle East area. The most notable
deficiencies are:
a. Lack of precise information on relations and under-
standings between the UAR and the Soviets and between the
Yemen and the Soviets;
b, Inadequate information on the situation in the Yemen
and in the petty principalities of the Arabian littoral.
II. Action
The members of the IAC are requested to take such action as
is feasible to remedy the above weaknesses in intelligence coverage,
