Limited Distribution
MEMORANDUM FOR THE INTELLIGENCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
SUBJECT:
Draft Handbook of the Standing Subcommittees of
the Intelligence Advisory Committee
1. The attached draft handbook comprises, within the compass
of a single volume, brief background statements covering the origin,
function, present membership and other basic data regarding the
standing subcommittees of the Intelligence Advisory Committee.
The reasons for compiling this information are outlined in more
detail in the "Foreword" to this volume. The handbook was prepared
by the IAC Secretariat, in collaboration with each of the IAC sub-
committees. Statements regarding individual committees have there-
fore, in each case, been drafted by, or cleared with, the appropriate
subcommittees.
2. Subsequent to the preparation of this draft handbook a
question was raised with respect to the distribution it should receive,
particularly because of the possible sensitivity of a compilation which
contained in one volume considerable details regarding the operation
of the IAC subcommittees. Consequently, the Secretary, IAC was
requested to submit the question of the disposition of this handbook to
the IAC. Single copies of this draft document are therefore being
forwarded to the members for review, with particular reference as
to whether it should be issued as an IAC document, the nature of any
additional dissemination and the classification to be given the handbook
in the event further circulation is authorized.
3. This matter will be placed on the agenda of an early IAC
meeting for appropriate action.

Secretary
