5. Plans
A. Study is being undertaken of the capabilities and
intentions of the USSR in the field of industrial automation,
particularly as applied to the machinery, machine tool, and
instrument industries. It is hoped to produce a report in
FY 1956 suitable for publication as an IM. Responsible analysts

SUBJECT: Monthly Report for February 1956.
B. Half hour coffee break meetings have been instituted
in the Branch, held weekly on Friday morning for a discussion
by all hands of items of 1intelligence interest such as analysis
of Bloc plans, or substive research accomplished by the
Branch or other compoien s during the week. It is felt that
exchange of information on new developments, indications of
trend, etc., will be mutually helpful.
C. In order to insure continuity of contact it is planned
to have one member of I/NM visit the country for a half day each
week, rotating this duty. This is apart from the Branch's
country commitment and is expected to provide continuing information
regarding the progress of country work of interest to I/NM.
D. Progress is being made in preparation of an outline for
a study of Communist Chinese industrial investment.
