SUBJECT: Supplementary ORR Target on the USSR for the
REFERENCE: dated 13 October 1955 25X1A2g
1. Paragraph 54+ of referenced report states that the Soviet
Union publishes a "confidential publication with a limited circu-
lation" that "comes out monthly and gives full statistics on all
kinds of costs of production, harvest statistics, employment data,
crop yields, etc." and "absolute figures ... on the production of
such items as cement, tractors, combines, automobiles, etc." The
name of the publication is unknown.
2. The source of referenced report states that it was his
guess "that the circulation of this publication is restricted to
government economists and economists working in the institutes of
the Academy of Sciences and to those professors who have some
consultative or other connection with the Academy of Sciences or
with some governmental organization." He doubted that the publi-
cation reached "economists at all the universities and institutes."
3? It is obvious that the acquisition of this periodical
would constitute an important step forward in economic intelligence.
Accordingly, ORR is anxious that this vital statistical publication
be considered as a critical target for collection priority.
4. By reason of its particular importance to ORR, this target
should be considered as a supplement to Group I of the ORR list of
targets for the -,,s submitted under cover of our memorandum,

is presented.
