Approved For Release 2001/08/30 : CIA-RDP61S00527A000100180014-3 MEMORANDU??, To: Chairman, Working Group I From: Chairman, Executive Committee Subject: COCOM Control Eligibility At EDAC meeting No. 47 (August 30), the Chairman of EDAC noted that certain members expressed the view that some of the items now controlled are no longer "strategic", or do not meet the require- ments of present criteria for international control. If the foregoing is accurate,?we can anticipate proposals by other countries that certain items be decontrolled-or downgraded and perhaps they will start coming soon. It therefore appears de- sira.ble that any item now considered to be susceptible to attack by others be re-examined. The Chairman of EDAC requests that WG I canvass all mem- bers to determine which International List items, in the view of any member, might have lost their eligibility for their current rating with respect to the European Soviet bloc, and promptly obtain an up- dated technical review to which all interested agencies should con- tribute. This does not suggest a total list review exercise, but rather a quick search for susceptible items and then a thorough re- view of those. The Executive Committee should be kept aware of current findings by the Working Group. Distribution: ED List Part II WG I Approved For Release 2001/08/30 : CIA-RDP61S00527A000100180014-3
