The Committee discussed the following current items:
1. West Germany has requested quota relief from COCOM for the
sale of 8 turbogenerator sets of 50 megawatts each to Poland,
Comment: A purchase of this magnitude would measurably enhance the
coup ry's (and the Bloc's) electric power potential,, The power
requirements of the various Bloc countries have considerably exceeded
their capabilities in recent years. (- X2250) C.
2. The Polish have indicated that, be e
25X1 A9axt year., the ginning intend to install wired television service. Programs are to e they
transmitted from a central television receiving set to simplified
receivers installed in homes. The system is to result in a lowered
cost of 6elevision and a simplification of set servicing.
Comment: The ecenongr to be achieved is likely to be small, since the
tyVe of receiver to be used in homes can be little different from the
conventional television receiver. Wire lines required to provide
reasonable picture fidelity would be more expensive to install than
regular telephone lines. OFF USE, X2814)
