T e Camnittee attempted to tackle the problem of Collection,, dissemination,
and translation of foreign periodicals and books. The analysts working on the
man Satellites seem to be encountering the sane difficulties in this respect,
though not all at the some time on each obstacle. , This problem is of paint
importance because most of the beat material on the ae* ez of the Satellite
countries is unclassified infor=tioa in foreign publications. The number of
professional and technical magasi>nea available now are a bocsaasa and a and of
4 few years ago.

First, there is the problem of getting a fondW periodic+al * yearbook, or
other publication. A number of analysts said they bad ordered

same time in all erases. Consequently, the finished intelligeeae report Bu trers
if source material is insdequate?-a psrticvlar y frustrating experi for the
analyst when be thinks there is something available on the subject.
E weer, since the analysts are not getting proper support tram FJ, the
analysts discussed ways of b ndling the problem on their own. For instance, it
was pointed out that there are some genearaaa publications that will oecasiow.ly
have an article an as special ssectOOr--such as agriculture. It is not profitaarble
for the Agriculture Branch to subscribe to the p riodical and read it every month
for the small aunt gotten sit of it. Mwwwer, the article should be called to
the attention of the analyst following that particulamr sector. It VM proposed
that the Nurapeaan Satellite Committee be used as an informal medium for bringing
