Accomplishments 1. During the current month, the Trade Controls Branch furnished intelligence information required for the interagency review of a number of exceptions cases involving COMM and US unilateral controls., respectively. In addition, intelligence information was furnished as requested to aid in resolving certain definitions problems which have thus far. stalled COCOM agree- ment for continued control over the items concerned. The Branch has also reviewed informally the determinations of the Secretary of Commerce as to the revised coverage of the unilateral US Security Export Control List (SELL). 2. An alphabetical index to commodities on the Atomic Energy List, the Munitions List and International Lists I and IV is being prepared. 3. Support was given the Department of State representative on the interagency Diversion Control Panel (DCP) in the documenta- tion of a number of diversion cases to be discussed at the forth- coming meeting of the COCOM Subcommittee on Export Controls. #. Support was provided on a continuing basis for BFC investi- gations of attempted diversions of electronic equipment and parts via Latin American countries. Information provided by STD and other parts of ORR resulted in the Department of Commerce's extension of validated licensing requirements for the export of gravimeters to Latin America. 5. Support was extended to DD/P, (a) in the continuing attempt to recruit an East-West trader as "double agent"; and (b) in pro- viding briefings on legal and illegal East-West trade back round to CIA rsonnel preparing for overseas assignment. } 6. Intelligence support was provided as necessary to EDAC WG II on 24 Administrative Action cases; a memorandum concerning numerous Soviet Bloc efforts to obtain aircraft equipment from a US manu- facturer was disseminated to DCP; and 15 requests for name intelli- gence were serviced for the Department Treasury, and for DD/P and OCR. Intelligence was also provided to (a) ACEP Operating Committee on 4Polish exception requests and 7 other cases; (b) EDAC WG I on 7 Polish exception requests and 14 other cases including both exception requests and problems of redefinition; and (c) the Office of the DD/I in connection with 3 Port Security cases. 8. A total of 2,206 documents were received in the Branch and scanned and 193 of these were selected for multiple carding; 3 evaluations were made of CS documents; 10 clearances of CS and 00 documents were obtained at the request of outside agencies. 9. A report was prepared for use as background in subsequent OOCOM negotiations entitled, Status of Export Control Problems on Rolling Mills. B.
