During the past month Branch personnel reviewed and evaluated for
the Department of State six technical pampblets submitted by USSR dele-
gation to the ECE Working Group on Technical Railway Problem. We found
the pamphlets to have no intelligence significance and also to contain
no new technical data or reporting not easily obtainable in other Soviet
literature.
Personnel in the Far at section, particularly , have 25X1A9a
been called upon to render unusual amounts of current intelligence support
on the Formosa Straits problem. The effectiveness of this support has
been limited considerably by the faulty reporting from the field on this
area. We are negotiating currently with other Agencies to determine
measures or procedures that can be adopted to correct this reporting.
Pending a solution to the problem we are currently making our own rack-ups
of activities in the Formosa Straits area.
Branch personnel submitted or contributed to ten other items for
OCI publications.
