to Attend The
This is in reply to your memorandum requesting information about
attendance at the American Economic Association Meetings
in Washington. While there were some minor benefits
does
resulting from his attendance at the Association meetings,
not feel that they could provide a strong case concerning
t e pate propriateness of the travel charges to the government contracts,
particularly in view of the difficulties that arose in connection with
similar travel expenses of members of taff. We therefore will
accept the disallowance of these charges and would, at that time, transfer
them to

the right under the terms of his appointment to take tim
to attend professional society meetings and so, while the trave expenses
may not be an appropriate charge, his salary payment during the period
while he was at these meetings is directly chargeable against the contract
under which he is employed.
