MEMORANDUM FOR THE DIRECTOR CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY

SUBJECT: Augmentation of a TALENT Space for Commander,
Alaskan Command
1. Reference is made to our request of 5 September 1957 for
establishment of TALENT spaces for key positions in the Alaskan
Air Command, and your approval of 23 September 1957.
2. At the time the request was initiated, Lt General Armstrong
was serving in a dual capacity as the Theatre Commander and as
Commander of the Alaskan Air Command.
3. Brig General Kenneth Gibson has recently been assigned
duties as Commander of the Alaskan Air Command. Lt General
Armstrong has retained the position of Commander of the Alaskan
Command. With the split in duties, there is no TALENT position
currently authorized for the Commander of the Alaskan Command, though
both commanders require access in order to insure effective support
of the program and to afford these key positions access to the
results of the program.
4. Request approval of one additional TALENT position for
the Commander of the Alaskan Command, making a total of three (3)
TALENT positions for the theatre. This will not involve an ex-
tension of the system, and neither the Alaskan Command nor the
Alaskan Air Command will receive and store .material.
