SUBJECT Visit of Colonel Macia to HTAUTOMAT
1. At long last after a number of tries Colonel Macia has visited
HTAUTOMAT for the first time. The occasion was a visit of Colonel
Stapleton, who, I understand, is taking Colonel Dick Stewart's place as
Chief of the Collection Division, AF'CIN. I call this to your attention
because of Colonel Macia's reported surprise and amazement at what
he saw, including the advanced exploitation gear which Art has assembled.
It is said that Colonel Walker, who was also present and who has had great
difficulty persuading Macia of their own need for up-dated gear in the Pi
unit in AFCIN, was very much pleased that possibly he will now get some
support for some long-sought expenditures.
2. Colonel Macia for the first time also seemed to take an interest
in the possibility of placing some AFGIN people in the HTAUTOMAT unit.
3. 1 mention the foregoing because while we have managed to
get along reasonably well with AFCIN as you know there are times when
things have been a bit strained, and it has been difficult to get cooperation.
Perhaps this exposure to what can be done will loosen them up a bit
further.
