suBJECT: Contribution for Semi-Annual Killian Report
DATE: 22 September 1958
1. Although the basic mission of SIC has not been revised, agreement
has been reached and implemented to permit SIC to take on the responsi-
bility of covering communism in the Moscow Peking Axis course sponsored
by the Language and Area School.
2. The first step in increasing emphasis on coverage of Chinese
communist influence has been implemented through guest lectures of a
specialist who will join the staff in early October.
3. For the reporting period 1 April to 30 September 1958, SIC has
presented for Agency personnel courses in Introduction to Communism, Party
Organization and Operations, Anti-Communist Operations and USSR Basic
Country Survey with a student enrollment of 320. It has participated in
a course on the Moscow-Peking Axis with nineteen students. The staff has
contributed 459 hours of tutorial training for foreign nationals. The
staff has presented 132 hours of presentations on non-Agency programs,
including presentations in the Foreign Service Institute, Strategic
Intelligence School, Armed Forces Staff College, Army War College,
Naval Intelligence School, G-2 School at Fort Belvoir, International
Cooperation Administration, State Department and the United States
Information Agency. Clerical tutorial to Agency employees consisted of
approximately sixty hours.
4. SIC has arranged a series of presentations to be given to the
Inter American Defense Board as a result of an invitation by its Chairman.
It will emphasize the international conspiratorial aspects of communism
and the threat thereby posed by the Sino-Soviet bloc.
