INTERPRETATION OF ITEMS 15l L AND !l?560 SILICON DIODES
To facilitate discussion of document 3715.44/4 on May 23rd 1960 the
Netherlands authorities draw the attention of the Committee to the fact
that the silicon diodes, excluded from embargo and therefore free for
export, are exempted under the definition of Item 1544. However, the
general description of Item 1560: "Electronic components etc...11 covers
the diodes excluded from embargo under Item 1544.
A redefinition of Item 1560 is not considered desirable by the
Netherlands authorities as the present definition corresponds entirely
to the actual embargo requirements.
A further detailed general description of the diodes excluded
from embargo is not necessary either, as these diodes are already
exempted under the definition of Item 1544.
Therefore, in order to prevent any confusion in interpreting
Item 1544 and 1560, the Netherlands experts merely suggest that the
following note be added to Item 1544:
"silicon diodes, not covered by b(l), X3) or c(1) of this item
will not be considered to fall under the definition of Item
1560(a)".
They also suggest that the following be added to Item 1560:
"For coverage of silicon diodes see also note to Item 1544".
