Approved For Relea` 1999/09/16 : CIA-RDP62-006474000100180003- 4730 COCOM Doc. 3597 Date: July 6, 1959 COORDINATING COMMITTEE UNITED STATES MEMORANDUM CONCERNING TIIE EXPORT TO POLAND OP BORON MATERIALS 1. The United States authorities have been requested to approve the export to Poland of 100 metric tons of refined borax (B203 content 40 short tons) and 1400 metric tons of rasorite (B20g content 700 short tons) both of which are covered by Item 1715 of the International Lists. These materials would be consigned to CIECH, Warsaw, for ultimate use at the Zakiady Chomiczno "Tarnowskio Gory" in the production or manufacture of boric acid, sodium porborate and boron fertilizer. The value of the refined borax is $6,226 and that of the rasorito is $78,008. 2. The United States submits this request under the special Polish oxcoption policy. In accordance with the criteria and conditions set out in COCOM Document 2631, the cases have boon carefully reviewed on their merits and have boon determined to be reasonable and nocossary to the Polish civilian economy. In addition, the usual assurances against transshipment and ro-export of those materials including their end- products have boon obtained. 3.
