Approved For Release 1999/09/16 : CIA-RDP62-00647A00020003& 3 54 C O N F I D E N T I A L 12th February, 1960. COCOM Document No. 3878 COORDINATING COLUITTEE RECORD OF STTATEiiENT BY THE GER11QiO DELEGATE ON THE CL.LSSIFIC~TION OF STANDING SAVE DETECTORS 11th February 1960 Present: Belgium(Luxembourg), Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States. There exists a want of clearness to classify standing wave detec- tors for frequency areas between 300 - 3000 10z, 1650 - 7300 Mhz and 8200 - 12 400 wiHz. These standing wave detectors are used in connection with other equipments for impedance - matching and VSi'R-measurements. They are rigid, mechanically calibrated line sections, without any electronic parts whatsoever, consisting of coaxial slotted line, coaxial non-slotted line or slotted wave- guide section. Only if for instance a UJ' or SHF signal generator and an equivalent measurin.. receiver, covered by Item 1529, are connected to the standing; wave detector, one would have a measuring instrument which would be under embargo. The standing wave detector, therefore, is an independant acces- sory for a test assembly and not a measuring, equipment or part of a measuring equipment and is ther(.fcre not covered by Item 1529(a). Since the waveguides as such are not covered by Item 1537(a) either, these standing wave detectors would - according to the Geruan Delegation's opinion - not be covered by any item in the International Lists. Before informing the German licensing authorities accordingly, the German Delegation would like to have the opinion of the other Delegations.
