Approved For ReIase 1999/09/16 : CIA-RDP62-0Q6647A00020004Q0i6 1 CONFID ENTI6.L 17th November, 1955: COCOM Document No. 3771B COORDINATING COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM BY THE BELGIAN DELEGATION BXCEPTION hEQUEST TO SUPPLY SIGNALLING TELEPHONE CABLE TO BULGAuZIA The Belgian delegation wish to confirm their statement of the 12th November and to inform the Committee that, during the month of September, their authorities had refused an application to export cable to Bulgaria, almost identical with the exception case submitted by the German Delegation. In view of the Committeets favourable reply to the German excep- tion request, the Belgian Delegation are instructed to submit the following exception request, which should be regarded as "an alternative order to the German case". This cable is intended for the "RUDiTAL" Company and presents the following characteristics: 1) 182 kilometres of railway signalling telephone cable (25,000 volts - 50 HZ) sheathed in lead with a hardening additive - steel armour forming the outer protective covering and an additional anti-corro- sion protection. Two star quads for carrier frequencies up to 108 KHZ useable in the two wire system. Twelve star quads for the phantom circuit. This cable is of the PMZBO type and consists of 28 pairs - diameter of conductor: 1.2 millimetres - plus 4 wires of the same diameter and one wire 0.9 mm. in diameter. 2) Loop-line telephone cable to be installed over a distance of 1.9 Kn, starting from the main railway telephone cable, having the some electrical value as the conductors in the main telephone cable, but with no anti-corrosion protection. Cable of the PMZBC type consisting of 28 copper wire pairs, the diameter of the conductor being 1.2 rim. 3) Telephone cable having the same characteristics as those described in (2), length 1.450 Kilometres. PE3Z type consisting of 14 copper wire pairs having a diameter of 1.2 millimetres. 4) Telephone cable having the same characteristics as those described in (2) and (3), length 18.5 Kilometres. PivMZC type consisting of 6 copper wire pairs, the diameter of the conductor being 1.2 millimetres. 5) Lead-in cable for carrier frequencies up to 156 KHZ. (a) 2.850 Kilometres of PIVIZPC type cable comprising 14 copper wire --pairs -- eonduetor diameters.=.2 millimetres. (b) 1.560 Km of i'MZ conduit cable consisting of 14 copper wire pairs, diameter of conductor: 2 millimetres. The total length covered by the cables would amount to approximately 206 kilometres, to the value of 32,000,000 Belgian francs or 4 640,000. Before encouraging the firm concerned to continue their negotia- tions, the Belgian authorities would like to know whether the Committee would consider this exception request as an alternative order to the German case, in the light of the arguments already adduced in COCOM 3722. The Belgian Delegation would be glad to have the Committee's views as soon as possible. 4 0 N F I D E N T I A L Approved For Release 1999/ P62-00647A000200040029-6
