COORDINATING COMMITTEE
RECORD OF DISCUSSIONS
ON
THE WEST ION OF THE CcIMITTEEtS FUTURE PREMISES
5th October. 1959
event: Belgium (Luxembourg), Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan,
Netherlands, United Kingdom, United States.
1. The GEiiMAN Delegate, referring to the coming transfer of the NATO
offices and to the demolition of the temporary buildings at the Palais de Chaillot,
asked the Chairman what arrangements had been taken as to the Committee's future
premises. What date had been foreseen for the Committeets departure from the temporary
offices in the Passy Wing? Where was the Committee going?
2. The CHAIRMEN thanked the German Delegate for drawing the Committee's
attention to a problem which was becoming more urgent every day. He said that the
question of the reinstallation of the Committee had been and continued to be the
subject of conversations between the French Delegation and himself. In asking the
French authorities - who had kindly offered hospitality to the Committee - to seek
a'solution of the problem, the Chairman pointed out that he had been anxioud above
all to obtain an assurance that the work involved in the revision of the Lists could
be carried out in the required conditions as to quiet and security. The Chairman
left it to the French Delegate to reply directly to the German Delegate's questions
and to inform the Committee of the latest results of the current negotiations.
3. The FRENCH Delegate confirmed that the problem raised by the reinstalla-
tion of the Committee had been under study by the competent French departments for
a];riost a year. No final decision had as yet been reached. It would be taken by the
Prime Minister's Office on the basis of advice fron the Budgetary and Technical
Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Even at this stage it was clear that
it would be difficult to house the Committee in premises having the same area as at
p'esent. The Delegate had again recalled this matter to the notice of the Price
I!nister t s Office and would not fail to inform the Committee of the reply, which
h hoped to receive shortly. In any event the French Delegate could assure his
aclleagues that the Committee's transfer to new premises would not take place before
the beginning of the following year, i.e. after the List revision scheduled for
November and December.
1 The GERMAN Delegate thanked the French Delegate for the details he had
9*ven to the Committee. He asked him to convey to his authorities the Committee's
gratitude for the efforts the French Government were making to find a solution of
the problem confronting the Committee.
S'? The COMMITTEE associated themselves with the German Delegate's remarks
and, after agreeing that the matter was urgent, invited the Chairman and the French
Delegation to continue their efforts to find a solution which would be satisfactory
to all.
