SUBJECT: OCR Acceptance of Suggested Changes in Forthcoming Intelligence
Area-Subject Code
1. As I recently mentioned, OCR bought about 90% of GIs pro-
posed changes. There remained three points for further inquiry.
2. Point I, Provision for specific towns and cities in the
Area Classification Code. OCR coders feel this would be too dif-
ficult to undertake, though they are keenly aware of the short-
comings of the present system. In the course of the discussion,
it was pointed out that the present coding system would probably
be modified when OCR decided upon their "file system," i.e., Mini-
card, etc. It was agreed that G's request would be kept in mind
when these modifications were made.
3. Point II, Handling of Economic Geography Subjects. The
main heading will be included, with cross-reference to sub-headings
under the appropriate economic subjects. Item (d) will be covered
in Chapter IV under General Industry by making certain language
changes.
4. Point III, Transportation. The main heading will be
carried, with cross-reference to most sub-headings under General
Transportation. Items (a) and (b), which you were especially inter-
ested in, will be found under a miscellaneous sub-heading which is
to include all primitive forms of transportation.
