Planning Paper for FY 1960 In connection with the Planning Paper for FY 1960, St/A has asked that GRA submit any contemplated changes in personnel strength which would have to be included in the Paper. This was discussed, and it was agreed that there seemed to be no need to indicate change in present staffing at this time. 2. D/GL Need for Assistance Chief/G reported that Chief, D/GL, has expressed an extreme need for 25X1A9aadditional het in his division's program for the procurement of Sino-Soviet Bloc maps. feels that this is one of the most important tasks that D/GL will ever have, and would like to be able to follow as many as possible of the promising leads being uncovered. This was discussed, and it was suggested that perhaps some help can be found in the Area, at least until such time as individuals now in the pipeline are brought on board25X1A9a and broken into the job (probably about 6 months). asked that Chiefs, D/GG, and D/GL make as objective a study of the situation as possible, and write up for him what they consider to be the immediate and long-range benefits (or harmful effects) which would result from a reassignment arrangement. will meet25X1A9a at 10:30 a.m. on Tua~y~,X 2 May 1959, to discuss this matter. 3. Discussion with 2-00680R0001 0032 Chief/G reported he had met with at the latter s request, to discuss Ch G's comments on the la daft of the exchange of geographers 25X1 A9clroposal. explained to that his position was 25X1 X7 based entirely on consideration of the net intelligence value to be derived, in view of the importance to the intelligence community of the procurement of Soviet topographic maps. Studies in Intelligence 25X1A8a Chief/G has discussed with members of the editorial board of "Studies in Intelligence" the contribution of articles for publication in that periodical. It is suggested that Geographic Area personnel plan to write articles on their particular activity or interest (i.e., Carton Zapping Intelligence, Geographic Intelligence). 6. Request for Town Plans Chief, D/GL, showed Chief/G a request he had received from for unclassified Town Plans.
