discussed the internal area training programs which LETS is developing
for presentation this fall,, Prior to the meeting, draft copies of the
model syllabi? entitled, "Area Training Programs: Philosophy and Alms"
were distributed to the DD/S Training Liaison Officers, 25X1
said that the outlined courses had been designed to meet a general
needs and interests of the DD/T, DD/P, and DD/S personnel. The Director
of Training will request the Deputy Directors of the three major CIA
components designate a senior, highly competent, area specialist to
make up a small planning committee which will participate with OTR
in the planning of the basic specifications of each of the types of
programs outlined in the draft

regional courses to be offered this fall will cover the Middle East,
Western Europe and Southeast Asia,,
Beginning in October, LETS is planning to offer a full-time, 4, 1/2
month. intensive course in French,

The Chief of operations school explained that the Operations
Familiarization course is designed for personnel who do not require the
16 weeks case officer training but do require orientation in clandestine
tradecraft and in the programs of the clandestine services. The content
of the course will be a condensed version of the 16 weeks program.
Although this course is primarily for the DD/P personnel, the Chief,
Operations School anticipates that some DD/S personnel who work closely
with operations in the field will require this training.

The Chief, Basic School, explained that the Operations support
course is designed for personnel who are primarily concerned with
administrative functions in support of clandestine services. The
course is offered at Headquarters and is divided into two phases:
the trmadecrnafl ,n inc es nha (two weeks) which emphasizes the
basic principles and techniques of clandestine operations and the
organization and functions of the clandestine services, and the
a ra:tive phase (three weeks) which deals with administrative
support.

Chief of Intelligence School, announced that
of Georgetown University will conduct a course
in Conference Leadership on November 14th in place of the Intelligence
Briefing course scheduled for that date. The class is limited to 16
students and since the course was requested by the DD/I TLO's, only
two slots have been allotted to the DD/S for this particular running.
Registration for the Conference Leadership course will be open until.
7 November 1955.

Acting Chief of the A&E Staff, requested that the
DD/S ~O s allow adequate time when scheduling personnel who require
foreign language aptitude and other prerequisite tests. The A&E Staff
has a limited amount of space and personnel to handle such programs.
