Performance of "B" Configuration.
J.. Tine enclosed data nave been accumulated. through a study
of forty (40) B missions. Tae 40 missions were accomplished during
the months indicated:
Feb. '56 - 1 mission (FTF 103)
May - 3 missions
June - 6 missions
July - 7 missions
Aug. - 8 missions
Sept. - 5 missions
Oct. - 9 missions
i'iov. - 1 mission (B-1318)
Total 40 missions
2. Six (6) out of the forty (40) missions can be classified
as Successful. Last successful mission was B-1314, 30 Oct. 1956.
3. Prior to enumerating the number and types of malfunctions
encountered in the balance of 34 missions; certain factors must be
kept in mind. One, frosting and/or condensation was the rule rather
than exception. Two, malfunctions of tracker were not included in
this study. Three, total number of B configuration malfunctions
will exceed number of missions due to occassions when more than one
ma:Lfunction occurred during any one mission.
4. The number and type of malfunctions which occurred during
34 unsuccessful missions were as follows:
19 - Shutter
13 - Tracking.
10 - Oblique Drive System
4 - Programmer
2 - Film Drive (Closely related to Tracking)
2 - 1MC
2 - Cassettes

[UUote : A ""131" configuration was scheduled for Mission 1321,
7 Nov. 156 but it did not check out in Pre-flight. Reason for
failure not given therefore this mission not included in total of
40 listed in number and type of malfunctions.
