Approved For Release 20 CIA-RDP62B00844R000200010059-8 low ,W SAPC-10005 Copy L of 9 16 October 1956 MEMORANDUM FOR: Project Director SUBJECT : Deployment of Base C Pilot Personnel 1. With the probable slippage of Detachment C's deployment date by at least two weeks and with the completion of the USCM for C by no later than 28 October,, we are again faced with the situ- ation where the eight pilot personnel assigned to Colonel Beerli will have more than ample time for an extended pre-deployment leave. 2. Assuming a 1 December deployment date, these pilots will have something in the neighborhood of more than thirty days at their disposal. In the past, we have sent pilot personnel overseas follow- ing physical deployment of the detachment to which they were assigned. In each case we sent them overseas by eoamn.ercial air. In view of the time-gap between the USCM and the deployment of the main body of Detachment C, I recommend that the pilots be deployed, in this.instance, by military air, leaving with the first C-18 air- lift. Not only would this be a saving in dollars to us, but it would avoid prolonging their leave status to a point where it would be somewhat embarrassing for us to cover it in the event of direct questioning from outside the project.
