Page 3, line 15. Substitute for, "they aim to catch up with
us in output by 1965," the following, "they
aim to narrow the production gap by 1965."
Page 5, lines 20-23. Delete from, "Evidence accumulated," to,
"the immediate postwar period," as mis-
leading.
Page 6, line 3. Add "increase in" before "output to match."
Page 9, line 5. Substitute "equally difficult" for "equally
fruitless."
Page 9, line 16. Add "many of" before "the expenditures of our
private economy"
Page 10, line 7. Substitute, "financing the national economy,"
for "financing research institutions"
Page 10, line 4. Add, after "their objective of economic develop-
ment," the following, "and at the same time
provide their people with a respectable level
of living by Western standards."
