The objectives of the course are a) to arrive at understanding of current CIA/DDP
missions, programs., doctrine
and
roc
d
s
p
e
ures in covert action; b) to increase pro-
ficiency in planning and conducting covert-action operations with consideration of the
roles of VI, CI, and Support; c) to stimulate perceptiveness of situations requiring
and suitable for covert action and to motivate the CS officer to apply accepted covert
action concepts in his overseas assignments; and., d) to analyze and evaluate covert
action techniques, tactics., and sustained campaigns including those of the opposition.
II- CO UFSE CHARACT TMIS TICS
Instructign.in, this three-weeks half day course is by lecture, case study, film,
seminar, individual practical work and oral participation in eight major areas;
a) missions., programs, and doctrines, b) essentials of covert action, c) political
action, d) economic. action, e) paramilitary, f) propaganda, g) international organi-
zations; ands h) denied areas.

covers a wide range of activities in a limited amount of time which does not permit
a full development of operational problems and tests. The student is rated
