rovedr Rel ase8 -RDP63-003000200010013-0 Office 11 ~lnorunc um UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO Chi f, Plans and? Policy Staff MUM : OR Briefing Officer I. Substantive Briefings These should be given as needed. Present arrangement ideal. Such briefings are generally given by Mr. Dulles, Gen. Cabell or Mr. Amory. If Mr. Amory needs a substitute, he usually sends Sherman Kent. SUBJECT: Comments on Proposed Military Briefings at Defense Schools 25X1A II. Briefin s on CIA Mission Functions and Organization (including both DDI and , DP coverage to include types of operations and sanitized examples of each) 1. Lyman Kirkpatrick (somewhat weak on the DDI side, perhaps by choice. Good briefer, has the rank, and will not "play cozy" with audience.) 2.1 (Professional briefer. Good balance between DDI and DDP. No rank. Does not have experience in depth of DDP, but knowledge of DDP more than sufficient if terms of reference indicate conceptual and organizational presentation, sprinkled with good operational examples. Insufficient knowledge if what is called for is along "CIA in the Field" lines, calling for field experience; or if what is called for is extensive coverage of specialized topics such as "War Planning," "UW," etc. Where protocol indicates ranking official, can be used in combination with such official--giving basic data, leaving Mr. Amory, for example, to elaborate and to answer questions.) III. Production of National Intelligence (NSC USIB Agencies-DDI) 1. Robert Amory 2. Sherman Kent 25X1A of Operations, Examples of Each Type) DATE: 26 May 1960 3. 14. IV.
